Green Garage
Productions is a group of Musicians, Artists, Songwriters,
Studio Engineers, and great friends unified in the belief and
practice of making music that gives people more than a sound to
compare to their favorite artist. "We are not Hip Hop, we're not
Rock, Jazz, Techno, R&B and all those other genres you find on
a drop down on myspace," explains Jordan Jeffries, AKA Don-J. Green
Garage Productions really came together by a series of chance
meetings and family ties. It was while Jordan was in college in
Memphis, Tennessee, 1992, that he was given a cheap beat program
called Hip Hop Ejay from a friend's little brother. He fell in love
with the feeling of taking something as simple as a metronome and
turning it into a song. Before long, he joined forces with Levoy
Young (V.O.Y.), who had an old school off-white bullet mic (which
came with a 1997 Toshiba Satellite laptop) and they started making
songs together.
It wasn't until 2006 that Jordan decided to move back to his home,
Seattle, to be with his family and make his dream a reality -
owning and operating a recording studio where he and his friends
could create the kind of quality music they wanted. It just so
happened that his cousin and fellow GGP artist and producer Justin
Jeffries (J-Macka) moved back to Seattle around the same time.
J-Macka has been playing music for as long as anyone remembers;
playing the alto saxophone and the piano in bands that toured
nationally while he was still in high school. When Jordan told him
about his idea of starting a production company, he was instantly
on board. Around the same time, Jordan met with Ian Stephens
(E.A.), who is also an artist and producer for GGP - and happens to
be a self-taught piano virtuoso that has classical vocal training
with a Julliard professor by the name of William Toole. With the
buy-in of both Justin and Ian, Green Garage Productions was
born.
The cast of characters that makes up the Green Garage Productions
crew is large and varied - with a wide span of talent and musical
stylings. They can, and do, create virtually any genre of music
they feel at the time. In addition to Don-J, J-Macka, E.A., and
V.O.Y., they boast the talents of Chris Vincent, who plays the
guitar masterfully and is also an amazing producer with a recording
knowledge that is the very backbone to every finished product GGP
releases; Connie Johnson who is known as a great vocalist and
performer, to whom singing comes as second nature and who also has
the rare ability to harmonize with anyone; and Ralph Rogers (Shino)
who is one of the most dynamic lyrical minds around. They are such
a mash-up of different styles, cultures and personalities that they
truly relate to every musical style and ambition. Their belief is
that music in general is lacking in bravery - and they're here to
fill that gap, eager to work with anyone that is creative and
willing to step out of that box with them.
There are several recordings and performances by these artists
coming out soon - particularly the Green Garage Productions
compilation due out this fall, where you can catch all of the
artists in one place. There are sample tracks from each new
upcoming release available on their myspace page,
www.myspace.com/greengarageproductions. Be sure to check often for
upcoming performances, as this is one extraordinary group of
performers that is not to be missed.
