He said. She said. A witness. An alibi. There have been whispers on the street, murmurs in the crowd, voices from below and echoes in the alley that the bar that rests below Pike Place Market is hauntingly good. The Alibi Room is a secret spot of Seattle, below the busy buzz of the Market, within the walls of its enchanting history. Dlist spoke with manager Corey Ramey, patron Tita Von Fleece and bartender Brady Owen about the Alibi Room. Here's what we got out of them.

He Said: The location has been the Alibi Room for, I believe, 14 years and before that, Bugsy's Pizza. Part of the original ownership group of the Alibi Room included investors Tom Skerritt and Rick Stevenson, who wrote and produced the independent film "Expiration Date," which was mainly shot inside the Alibi Room. The Alibi Room has had a long relationship working with local artists, especially in film. -Mr. Brady Owen

Exhibit A: Upon entering, the book shelves are lined with dozens of film scripts.

She Said: Another point of interest is that the Alibi Room is rumored to be haunted by two different ghosts. The first being Frank Goodwin, the founder of the Market, who hangs out and greets people by the restrooms, and the other of a Russian women who was kept as a servant in the old hotel that occupied this space. I've never seen any ghosts, but I have seen some weird occurrences, so who knows. -Ms. Tita Von Fleece

A Witness: What I can tell you is that we feature brick-oven pizzas and salads utilizing market fresh ingredients and serve happy hour daily from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. everyday. We are open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week. The kitchen is open until 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 p.m. on Sundays. As far as the ownership history goes, back in the day, a group of actors and producers sold the place to a gentleman who passed away on New Year's Day '07, After that, his family, Jay Janicek, Sam Mungia and myself took over. That was two years ago. Jay and Sam also own the Summitt Public House on Capitol Hill. After a year of business development, we installed a brand new wood stone pizza oven as part of a remodel, which also included a multi-media private area in the basement that is available for rent. Since that first year we put in the oven and changed the menu, we've experienced steady growth in the business and feel very fortunate to be doing well in this difficult economic environment. I believe it's because we have kept our prices low and accessible."-Mr. Corey Ramey

Exhibit B: Check out the menus for food items like the Alibi Pies (pizzas) 17 inches total and happy hour, six beers on tap and more than a dozen great bottled wine selections and Brady Owen signature cocktails.

An Alibi: We can tell you these people were with us, we saw them and the Alibi Room with our own eyes. If you have your doubts, simple curiosities or the desire to play the role of a historical drinking detective, we encourage you to stop in. You won't be alone!
