The Herbfarm in Woodinville is much
more than a mere restaurant. It is a destination. A destination
where one doesn't just show up to enjoy a simple meal, but to take
part in an exciting and magical culinary experience.
Over the course of five hours, this experience takes you through a
themed nine-course meal by accomplished Executive Chef, Keith Luce,
who joined The
Herbfarm in October of 2007. With past experiences that include
working in Michelin 3-Star restaurants in France and Italy, and
previously being recognized as one of America's "Top 10 Chefs" by
Food&Wine and "Rising Star Chef of the Year" by the James Beard
Foundation, Luce and the rest of his team make up an impressive
group. With dinner served just once nightly, the staff's efforts to
get it all right shines through and is proven well in the five to
six exquisitely paired ...

Once upon a time (a few years ago), I set foot into the city of
Edmonds for a special occasion. One of my dear friends was getting
married. Even though I had to wear a baby blue taffeta bridesmaid
dress, the ceremony was beautiful. At the end, as the bride and
groom exchanged rings with a beach view in the background, I cried.
Most recently, however, my trip to Edmonds was to visit the
semi-newly opened cafe and social lounge, The Loft. Like the
wedding, the meal was beautiful, in a different sort of way than a
ceremony of course, and at the end of the meal, I cried. Well OK,
maybe I didn't cry. But the meal was so wonderful, I could have
made myself cry if it showed how much I truly enjoyed it.

The complexities of food are unlike those of any other
substance. The ability to nourish the body, enrich the mind and
fill our hearts are just some of food's powers. But seeing food as
a form of expression, as an art, is reserved for those with a
greater passion for cuisine. The end result was five great
restaurants with five great chefs that were delighted to share
their works of art with us.
For a little northern Italian cuisine, we stopped in at
Cafe
Juanita to find a light appetizer. Taking in the understated
elegance of the slightly rustic decor and a dining area that looks
out to a lush green garden, I was not so much prepared to be
awestruck by the dish that came out. The grilled octopus antipasti
($14) with fennel, chickpeas and green sauce came out beautifully.
A bright green sauce served as the base ...

In Seattle, seafood is by no means considered a rarity. But few
restaurants can say they offer the tastes, sights and sounds of the
Waterfront Seafood Grill. Perched on Pier 70, with executive chef
Peter Levine steering the way, the Waterfront offers a luxurious
setting and quality food without the snooty service.
The classic elegance of the restaurant envelops you upon entering.
The warm colors of the carpet make way to black leather club chairs
with light-colored wood backs around linen-covered tables. Laid out
on each table are elaborately folded napkins and colored glass
appetizer dishes. The scene, in conjunction with the formally
dressed wait staff, gives off a timeless and tasteful vibe. Copper
chandeliers hang high from the ceilings, while copper plated
support beams lead up to dark slats of wood where tree branches
make an appearance with small white lights intertwined, creating a
romantic touch.
As I looked ...
