Skillet - Seattle's Famous New Diner

by Kayla on August 3, 2011 0 Comments

A once sought after food truck, is now Seattle’s favorite new restaurant. Skillet was Seattle’s first non-hot dog food stand in Seattle. Over the past four-years, it has evolved and now resides permanently, no wheels attached, in Capitol Hill on the corner 14th and Union.

Chef Joshua Henderson started Skillet Street Food in Seattle in 2007. If the food doesn’t impress you the vintage Airstream trailer where it all started should… Read more about the Chef.

Skillet’s famous Bacon Jam that is spread on just about everything from burgers to grilled cheese. Keep some room for dessert, ‘banana bread pudding’, simply delicious.

Little Water Cantina - New Happy Hour Spot on Eastlake

by Kayla on July 20, 2011 0 Comments

New to the East Lake area, Little Water Cantina could easily have the best outside patio in Seattle. The views of Lake Union are beautiful and the delicious margaritas make you want to spend your entire evening relaxing outside. Although, Little Water Cantina is only open until 10 p.m. on week nights (due to the apartment building directly above the restaurant) you can’t beat the happy hour menu, only available Tuesday - Thursdays 4 - 6 p.m. Service was great and the Albacore Tuna Ceviche & Chorizo Empanadas were both delightful!

Brave Horse Tavern - New Tom Douglas Restaurant

Fresh Pretzels and Beergaritia – I think yes!

Cute bartenders, friendly staff and a dessert menu that make your taste buds melt! The freshly baked pretzel and Beergaritia (Margarita made with beer) definitely satisfied my craving for both salty and sweet. The Brave Horse Traven is a perfect mix of good traditional tavern food, great selection of beer and right in the perfect location, South Lake Union. It has modern wood and brick interior with a cozy atmosphere, much different then other Tom Douglas Restaurants. It was busy with steady flow of 20-somethings; it suits a younger crowd and was very popular for happy hour. Next time, I will be ordering the baked to order chocolate chip cookie – looked and smelt amazing!

Take Part in an Exciting and Magical Culinary Experience

by Kayla on October 5, 2009 0 Comments

The Herbfarm in Woodinville is much more than a mere restaurant. It is a destination. A destination where one doesn't just show up to enjoy a simple meal, but to take part in an exciting and magical culinary experience.

Over the course of five hours, this experience takes you through a themed nine-course meal by accomplished Executive Chef, Keith Luce, who joined The Herbfarm in October of 2007. With past experiences that include working in Michelin 3-Star restaurants in France and Italy, and previously being recognized as one of America's "Top 10 Chefs" by Food&Wine and "Rising Star Chef of the Year" by the James Beard Foundation, Luce and the rest of his team make up an impressive group. With dinner served just once nightly, the staff's efforts to get it all right shines through and is proven well in the five to six exquisitely paired ...

The Loft in Edmonds

by Kayla on September 22, 2009 0 Comments

Once upon a time (a few years ago), I set foot into the city of Edmonds for a special occasion. One of my dear friends was getting married. Even though I had to wear a baby blue taffeta bridesmaid dress, the ceremony was beautiful. At the end, as the bride and groom exchanged rings with a beach view in the background, I cried. Most recently, however, my trip to Edmonds was to visit the semi-newly opened cafe and social lounge, The Loft. Like the wedding, the meal was beautiful, in a different sort of way than a ceremony of course, and at the end of the meal, I cried. Well OK, maybe I didn't cry. But the meal was so wonderful, I could have made myself cry if it showed how much I truly enjoyed it.

Seattle Food Local Favorites

by Kayla on September 21, 2009 0 Comments

The complexities of food are unlike those of any other substance. The ability to nourish the body, enrich the mind and fill our hearts are just some of food's powers. But seeing food as a form of expression, as an art, is reserved for those with a greater passion for cuisine. The end result was five great restaurants with five great chefs that were delighted to share their works of art with us.

For a little northern Italian cuisine, we stopped in at Cafe Juanita to find a light appetizer. Taking in the understated elegance of the slightly rustic decor and a dining area that looks out to a lush green garden, I was not so much prepared to be awestruck by the dish that came out. The grilled octopus antipasti ($14) with fennel, chickpeas and green sauce came out beautifully. A bright green sauce served as the base ...
