Eyes are Welcomed by Thousands of Original Tattoo Designs

by Kayla on October 5, 2009 0 Comments

Every so often, when there's a rare sighting of the ink I have scrawled down my side, someone asks, "Did that hurt?" I wish it had been like being licked by kittens, but unfortunately, yes, it did hurt. Luckily for me I went to Gem Tattoo. Owner Dave Richmond worked quickly and expertly to etch my newest form of self-expression in the least amount of time.

Near the refreshingly green Kirkland waterfront nestled between two little buildings is the appropriately named Gem Tattoo. Eyes are welcomed by thousands of original tattoo designs and memorabilia from all across the world. From the classic "M-O-M" in a heart tattoo to the one-of-a-kind drawings custom created by Dave himself, the wall has a collection of artwork to inspire every palette.

With 18 years of experience, Dave, aka Dr. Ichmond, can work with anyone to custom design a tattoo. He can co-create the ...

Sirens Salon is a Hybrid of Seattle’s Defining Characteristics

by Kayla on September 22, 2009 0 Comments

If Seattle were a massive ship, then Wallingford Ave., as it slopes downwards towards the water, would be the crow's nest. At the corner of Wallingford and 37th in a nondescript residential area, is Sirens Salon. The view from Sirens Salon at times looks as if one might fall right off the face of the earth into the atmosphere of Seattle's most infamous landmarks. But planted firmly on the sidewalk, the building, like a coastal boutique or a seaside relic, provides a safe hideout for those in need of a fabulous blowout.

On a hazy day ...

Dina S. Good Salon

When you walk into Dina S Good Salon, you have to be ready to throw away your mascara. Seriously. I am sure you are all familiar with the mascara commercials that tease you into believing you too can have long, perfect lashes with just a simple twist of black gunk. Well, it's true my friends. You can have long eye-popping lashes, but you have to go to the Dina S Good Salon in order to make that happen.

The most important gift that you can give a woman is the ability to look at themselves in the mirror and actually like what they see," Owner Dina Susan Good said. And that's exactly what she strives to do. She started as a make-up artist who found herself at the mercy of eyelash strips. An avid consumer of eyelash strips for more than 20 years, she happened upon an article ...

Vain Salon

by Kayla on September 9, 2009 0 Comments

Vain Salon is cloaked in red and black, a small window giving you a glimpse into the life behind the doors. But don't be fooled, the impressive salon has nothing to hide. In fact, it's quite the opposite. One of the locations sits in the heart of Belltown, where it pulsates with an ever-revolving door of people who come from all parts of Seattle.

The hair salon was born out of a belief that self expression is something to be treasured and supported. Victoria Thomas Gentry, a transplant from New York, was instantly enveloped by the spirit of Seattle, but she also saw the opportunity to shake things up. She began her love story with an idea and determination. She felt every person should be given the opportunity to use their body, well in this case their hair, as a canvas to express to others who they are ...
